description Colonel Denning State Park, in north central Cumberland County, is in Doubling Gap, so named by the âSâ turn where Blue Mountain doubles back on itself. This feature may be seen from the Doubling Gap Vista in adjacent Tuscarora State Forest. The park has 273 acres of woodland and a 3.5-acre lake.

importantInformation 8 MILES NORTH OF NEWVILLE 9 MILES SOUTH OF LANDISBURG Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the State Park. The sand beach is open from late-May to mid-September, 8 a.m. to sunset. Swim at your own risk. No pets on beach. Please be aware that bringing firewood into PA is prohibited. Moving firewood into parks spreads insects and diseases. Walnut materials are prohibited from being transported from Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia, Chester, and Delaware counties. The use of local firewood is strongly recommended. All firewood must be burned prior to your departure. More info is available at http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/insectsdisease/ Campground: Pets are only permitted on sites 1-12 and are not permitted on the swimming beach. Pets must be on a 6ft leash or in a cage. They must display a license if required in home state and have a current rabies vaccination. The pet must be under control at all times and may not be left unattended. No more than two non-caged pets per site. Hunting is not permitted in a majority of the State Park. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Game Commission rules and regulations apply. There must be someone 18 years of age or older in the party to be responsible for the campsite being reserved. Specific site reservations will be made but the PARK RESERVES THE RIGHT to make changes, such as reassignment of site if necessary. CANCELLATION FEES will be assessed on all reservations. Firewood and ice are available for sale at the Campground Host site located on site #12. Sales proceeds go back to the park to fund improvement projects. Camping season starts the Friday before trout season opening in March/April and ends the last day of rifle deer season in December. Class B - Primitive (without showers) Pavilion: Pets must be on a 6ft leash. The pet must be under control at all times and may not be left unattended. You are permitted to erect directional signs for members of party to find the facility in the park. Signs must be tasteful, non-obtrusive and not excessive in numbers. Sign must be on its own post and must be removed at the end of the day. Signs are not permitted on park signs, posts, & trees. Play equipment is available at both pavilions. Organized Group Tenting Area: Pets are not permitted. There must be someone 18 years of age or older in the party to be responsible for the campsite being reserved. Specific site reservations will be made but the PARK RESERVES THE RIGHT to make changes, such as reassignment of site if necessary. CANCELLATION FEES will be assessed on all reservations.
